Helmet's new album is being mastered… not long now!

The highest forms of bliss and therapy can come in the form of chest-rattling bass drums, screeching guitar solos and soaring vocals.

I’ve been to concerts from The B-52’s to Snoop Dogg, but the best way to do it live is with heavy metal.

Now, I reference heavy metal in a broad way. Any time you can see a group you like, whether they are mainstream hard rock, or thrash, or death metal, it’s worth every cent.

From the moment the roadies test the kick drum and send shockwaves through the rib cages of the thousands of black-clad faithful — the atmosphere and intensity will begin to rise to epic proportions.

The power of the music is unreal and I can honestly say the money I’ve unloaded over the last few years to experience bands like Killswitch Engage, Disturbed and most of all Metallica, has been well spent.

Stay metal.Collapse )

Mastodon Announce Spring Tour
Never underestimate the endurance of Mastodon.

After 11 months of touring in 2009 -- including a run opening for Metallica in Europe and a stateside trek with Deathklok as part of the Adult Swim Presents tour -- the Atlanta-bred progressive metal band have announced a new 37-date spring tour of North America.

The trek -- launched in continuing support of Mastodon's SPIN-approved 2009 release Crack The Sky -- kicks off on April 16 in Charleston, SC, and wraps up in Lexington, KY, on May 22. Fellow metal bands Baroness, Valiant Thorr, and Between The Buried And Me will support on select dates.

Tickets for all concerts go on sale Feb. 12, with certain presale tickets available on Feb. 11. Check out the complete tour itinerary below.

In related news, Mastodon have recorded the soundtrack for Jonah Hex, an upcoming film adaptation of the comic book series starring sexpot actress Megan Fox. Bassist Troy Sanders described the band's new music in an interview in late '09: "A lot of it was spacey, Melvins B-sides, Pink Floyd-like, surreal outer space, like Neil Young's Dead Man. Swirling, nausea music," he said.

Aerosmith and Rage Against The Machine added to the Download 2010 line-up
You want more headliners? You got it. We can confirm that as well as the already-announced AC/DC, the other two headliners on the Download 2010 are none other than one of America’s greatest Rock ‘N’ Roll bands Aerosmith and hip-hop punkers Rage Against The Machine.

Celebrating 40 years at the top, Aerosmith will return to the main stage at Donington Park for the first time in 16 years.

Last playing as headliners of the Donington Monsters Of Rock Festival in 1990 and 1994, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry et al return with their legendary juggernaut performance, one that has earned them the title of best-selling American rock band of all time.

Rage Against The Machine, who in a storm of publicity and heavy campaigning scored the UK Christmas No. 1 single last year, will for the very first time bring their sheer power of political alternative, hip-hop, punk rock to the festival’s main stage.

To this day, Rage Against The Machine, who were presented the Hall Of Fame Award by Kerrang! Magazine in 2008, remain one of the most popular and influential political bands in contemporary music.

The excitement doesn’t end there though, as we’ve also added Jared Leto’s phenomenal THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS, SlipKnot frontman Corey Taylor’s other band STONE SOUR and iconic punk rocker BILLY IDOL to the line-up.

Also on the bill are LAMB OF GOD, one of rock's most brutal live bands, and the incredible FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, who were one of the biggest highlights from last year’s festival.

Don’t miss your chance to experience these band, plus over a hundred others when Download returns to Donington Park in June, celebrating 30 years of rock heritage at the illustrious site.

Megadeth founder and frontman epic bitch Dave Mustaine has announced the return of original bassist David Ellefson to the iconic multi-platinum group.

This reunion is appropriately timed to Megadeth’s upcoming historic month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour which launches March 1 in Spokane, WA.  At these incredibly special shows, Megadeth will play their landmark, genre-defining 1990 album Rust In Peace in its entirety, in addition to other Megadeth favorites.

"This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness money,” Mustaine says.  “David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next we are going to show you the power of getting your asses kicked...HARD!"

David Ellefson concurs: "This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike. It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career."

Ellefson will join Mustaine and Megadeth band members Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar) on tour in support of the group’s current CD Endgame, which has received some of the highest critical accolades of the band’s career.

"We'd like to thank James LoMenzo for several years of loyal service on the bass, and wish him the very best," Mustaine adds.
